What is Claritin (Generic)/LORATADINE ?Claritin [Loratadine] is a group of drugs known as tricyclic antihistamine. It is more effective and non-sedative too. Claritin [Loratadine] is used for the treatment of variety of allergic symptoms and hives. Loratadine is the active component of Claritin. Claritin [Loratadine] works by blocking the histamine the chemical responsible for allergic reactions. It has a long-lasting effect and generally does not cause drowsiness as it does not readily enter the central nervous system. Claritin [Loratadine] is available in a form of tablets syrup and rapidly disintegrating tablets [reditabs] for oral administration. Claritin tablets and Claritin reditabs contain 10mg of loratadine. Uses of Claritin (Generic)Claritin [Loratadine] is used to treat nasal allergies or hay fever allergic rhinitis such as runny nose sneezing itchy nose throat ears or eyes tearing eyes and nasal congestion. It is also used for perennial allergies which occur throughout the year. Apart from these Claritin [Loratadine] is also used to treat hives urticaria and other skin allergies. |

How to use Claritin (Generic)?For adults and children 6 years of age and above the recommended dose is Claritin 10mg tablets or reditabs or 2 teaspoonfuls [10mg] of Claritin syrup once daily. For children 2 to 5 years of age the recommended dose is 1 teaspoonful [5ml] of Claritin syrup once daily. For adults and children 6 years of age and above with liver and kidney problem the recommended dose is Claritin 10mg tablets or reditabs or 2 teaspoonfuls 10mg of Claritin syrup every alternate day. For children 2 to 5 years of age with liver and kidney problem the recommended dose is 1 teaspoonful [5ml] of Claritin syrup every alternate day. Claritin reditabs should be placed on tongue where it disintegrates within seconds and then to be swallowed. It can be administered with or without water. |

Side effects of Claritin (Generic)The most common Claritin [Loratadine] side effects reported in case of adults and children 12 years of age and above are headache somnolence fatigue and dry mouth. In case of pediatric patients 6 to 12 years of age the most common side effects reported are nervousness wheezing fatigue hyperkinesia abdominal pain conjunctivitis dysphonia malaise and upper respiratory tract infection. In case of pediatric patients 2 to 5 years of age the most common side effects reported are diarrhea epistaxis pharyngitis stomatitis fatigue influenza-like symptoms tooth disorder earache viral infection and rash. Other additional Claritin [Loratadine] adverse effects reported in case of adults and pediatrics patients are flushing impotence increased sweating edema blurred vision chest pain fever tinnitus hypertension palpitation migraine vertigo tremor constipation depression bronchitis sinusitis urinary retention jaundice hepatitis and seizures. |

Claritin (Generic) InteractionSome other medications that could lead to Claritin [Loratadine] drug interactions are cimetidine erythromycin and ketoconazole.
